Welcome to the California AmeriCorps Alliance

Our Mission

The mission of California AmeriCorps Alliance is to provide a place and voice for California AmeriCorps programs' so that through collective understanding and action we can help each other achieve the highest ideals and goals of national and community service.

Our Goals and Activities

The California AmeriCorps Alliance works to advance the following goals:

  • Develop a Strong Community: Create a forum for program engagement, mutual support, celebrating success, and for sharing best practices to bolster programs and their leaders.

  • Share Policy and Build Advocacy: Help raise awareness of current, pressing and critical policy issues affecting AmeriCorps programs; develop policy statements for use at the state level; and create plans for advocating for these policies as necessary.

  • Leverage Common Resources: Share funding and in-kind support to reduce costs or increase access to beneficial resources.

History of the California AmeriCorps Alliance

The California AmeriCorps Alliance in 2024 is a reset of a long-standing effort to build a robust community of practice for California’s AmeriCorps programs.

Since the inception of AmeriCorps in 1993, state Executive Directors, Program Directors and other leaders within AmeriCorps have discussed the need for an independent association that could leverage resources, provide support, and advocate for policy positions. During the summer of 2002 a small group of AmeriCorps Executive Directors and Program Directors came together to develop this type of association. Six months later, the California AmeriCorps Alliance (CAA) was officially formed with a Board of Directors representing programs of all sizes and all parts of the state. Throughout the early 2000’s CAA worked to represent California’s AmeriCorps programs in national conversations and share resources and information to help raise awareness of national issues that affect California’s programs. CAA entered a period of dormancy during COVID’s heaviest impact periods.

In 2024 - in the face of renewed threats to national service and a clear need for coordination and mobilization, core partners are reactivating the California AmeriCorps Alliance so that as a whole community we are better prepared to represent and protect our shared mission.
